Quiet day? || Anyone

[Patrick Sullivan]

It was quiet, a little to quiet, something that Patrick hated, but he wasn't going to say that it was. Patrick knew full well that if anyone uttered the "Q word" then all hell would break lose. Getting up from his desk, he walked out into the rest of the headquarters building, which was busy as usual. At one point, Patrick stopped and talked with a young officer who was only three weeks out of the academy. As he talked with the young man, Patrick had no idea that news would come in that would turn the day upside down.

Gil threw his pen down with a frustrated sigh, rubbing his eyes. Stupid paperwork. He'd much rather be working on some interesting experiment right now, or solving a case; anything but this nightmarish paperwork. But it was much too quiet today, creepily so.

Getting up, Grissom decided to go for a wander. His team seemed to be in hiding, since he spotted no one. Suddenly his cellphone rang and he almost pounced on it. "Grissom. Where? Uh huh... Yeah, on my way." Spotting Patrick not far away, he motioned to him. "Patrick, DB at the Tangiers," he called out to him. "Meet me at the car."

Patrick looked over when Grissom called out to him. "On my way" he replied before looking back at the officer. "Talk to you later" he said to the young man, who nodded then headed out. Patrick got his kit, then walked out to the car and waited for Grissom to arrive.

As he waited, Patrick thought about how this case would turn out.

A minute later, Grissom arrived, kit in tow. "Brass is waiting for us at the scene. Female victim collapsed at the bar, and the paramedics got there too late. So now we've been called in," he explained, getting behind the wheel of the car and waiting for Patrick to get in.

Patrick nodded, then got into the passenger seat. "That all we know?" he asked after closing the door and buckling up. His kit was in front of him, between his legs.

"Apparently the vic had already had a few to drink. The bartender was trying to get her to leave, but she was just causing a scene. And then she just collapsed," he told Patrick.

Patrick nodded in reply, "I see" he replied, "Not to jump to conclusions but it sounds like she was poisoned." he said matter of factly

Grissom gave a slight smile, not looking away from the road. "Could be. She might not even have realised what she was drinking until much too late," he replied, turning right. "However, we can't get ahead of ourselves," he added, something that he regularly reminded Nick and Sara.

Patrick nodded in reply, "Agreed" he said to Grissom. That was something he always heard when in the Marines.

Ten minutes later, Grissom pulled up outside the Tangiers and parked. The coroner's vehicle was already here, meaning that David Phillips was already inside with the body. Grabbing his kit from the back-seat, he headed inside.

"Grissom, Detective Sullivan," David greeted them, looking up from the body as they neared. "Andrea Saxon, 24. Been dead less than 30 minutes," he told them, handing Patrick the victim's drivers licence.

Patrick got his kit and followed Grissom in, nodding to David at the same time. Taking the driver's license after David handed it to him, Patrick looked it over closely. "She doesn't live to far from here, this address is for UNLV." he said to them.

Grissom gave a soft sigh. "Guess we'll make a stop there after we finish up here," he said before turning back to David. "Anything else?"

Patrick nodded in reply, then looked back at David. "Ms. Saxon has bruising on her face, defensive bruising on her hands and trauma to her sternum." he said to Grissom in reply.

Grissom frowned slightly. "Can you tell how long ago the trauma and bruising occurred? Surely she wouldn't have gotten beaten up in such a busy place as this..."

Patrick watched at the same time, thinking the same thing. "Judging by rigger I would say no more then six hours ago." David replied. Patrick sighed a bit, "So, our suspect has a six hour head start." he said off the cuff.

A sigh escaped Grissom's lips as he looked at the victim. "The question now becomes whether or not the trauma was the reason for her collapse and death now, or whether it could be something like something being slipped into her drink. David, do a full tox-screen when you get her back to the lab."

He looked around, trying to spot Brass, but the detective was busy interviewing. "Alright Patrick, let's finish up here and then we'll head over to the university," he said.

Patrick nodded, then started to process the area, keeping a close eye out for anything that could be evidence. He moved in a circular pattern from the victim's body.
